Chances are, you\u2019ve heard of The Chosen<\/em>. But just in case, here\u2019s a short and sweet introduction: it\u2019s the first multi-season TV show about Jesus and the folks who followed him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And you should know this, too: it\u2019s been watched by over 200 million people.<\/em>               <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re not sharing that stat to toot our own horn; we\u2019re sharing it simply to point out that people all around the world are deeply connecting with this show\u2014that something about the way the story of Jesus is being told in The Chosen<\/em> is allowing the story to be known and embraced <\/em>in ways that are unprecedented. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Want to leverage that? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are three ways you can.       <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leverage The Chosen<\/em> to Show the Story<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Younger generations\u2014really, all<\/em> generations at this point\u2014want to see<\/em> a story unfold, rather than read it. We can quibble with (and even grieve) this reality, but it is<\/em> reality. And The Chosen<\/em> has chosen to show<\/em> a story\u2014the<\/em> story\u2014in a way that critics and crowds agree is stunningly moving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You have an opportunity to let your students see<\/em> Jesus laugh. To see<\/em> him cry. To see<\/em> his righteous anger. To see<\/em> him heal lifeless limbs, dimmed eyes, and diseased skin. To see<\/em> him welcome the prodigals. We know this first point of leverage on the list is an obvious one, seeing as we\u2019re talking about a TV show. But given the cultural moment we\u2019re in\u2014and the challenges such a moment brings\u2014we don\u2019t want to ignore the simple and powerful fact that a television show shows<\/em> and that goes a long way with emerging generations.\u00a0

Leverage The Chosen<\/em> to Discuss the Story<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s one thing to show<\/em> the story of Jesus to your students; it\u2019s another thing to talk <\/em>about what you just saw. There\u2019s simply no better way to grab hold of understanding and to map out any sort of application. It\u2019s one thing to see<\/em> Jesus cry; it\u2019s another to ask and answer why he cried\u2014and to explore what his tears might mean for today. It\u2019s one thing to see<\/em> Jesus stare down the religious leaders. But what is it about them and their ways that makes him so angry? And is a bit of their spirit alive and well in even you and me? It\u2019s one thing to see<\/em> Jesus heal. But why does he heal some and not others? Why doesn\u2019t he heal me<\/em>? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every single episode of The Chosen<\/em> leaves your students with the biggest, most important questions that need exploring\u2014questions about God, life, and everything in between.\u00a0<\/strong>

Last one. It\u2019s one thing to show <\/em>the story of Jesus to your students and to talk through what you just saw; it\u2019s a whole other thing to study<\/em> the Story\u2014to rummage around even further in Scripture and history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We know that the conversations you\u2019ll have with your students are going to leave them curious about\u2014well, you name it: what life was like in ancient Israel; who the Pharisees were and what made them so cantankerous with Jesus; why the Sabbath was a big deal; how Roman occupation was so oppressive; the significance of this village or that town; which Scripture inspired what scene. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
