You\u2019ve been there before. It\u2019s Sunday morning. It\u2019s a few minutes before service, and you\u2019re confidently standing before a few sleepy-eyed small group leaders\u2014bulletproof coffee in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlright, friends, who can tell me this month\u2019s focus!?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crickets and blank stares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWho can tell me the Memory Verse?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More crickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnyone have any questions about the activities we\u2019ll leading today?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a symphony of crickets and their babies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clearly, your small group leaders are unprepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, you lead the huddle with vision and energy, but can\u2019t help but think to yourself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI handed them an entire month\u2019s worth of lesson plans two weeks ago . . .\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI email the lessons every Monday . . .\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI texted them a reminder to read it last night . . .\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat else can be done?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We all want volunteers who are not only prepared but also empowered and excited to engage with the few kids and teenagers God has entrusted to them every week. But let\u2019s face it: Your leaders also have schoolwork, jobs, kids of their own, and\/or other volunteer commitments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s pace of life only seems to get faster and busier by the second, so making their job clear and simple is paramount. And in this digital age, smartphones remain at the center of all connectivity.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enter the Lead Small app<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The free Lead Small app (available on Apple<\/a> and Android<\/a> devices)  is designed to place everything your leaders will need to know at their fingertips each week\u2014including lesson guides, their kids\u2019 names, birthdays, and even their goldfish\u2019s name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are five keys to consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Lead by example<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you have leaders leading your small group leaders (stay with me), encourage them to use the Lead Small app to stay connected to their team. Essentially, a Coach is just a small group leader of small group leaders, so why not have them use the app to keep track of their team\u2019s birthdays and to send group texts (available through app customization<\/a>)  with important reminders? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a Coach is willing to model the app and its features with their small group leaders, the team as a whole sees its value. And if you don\u2019t have a coaching structure set up yet, consider taking this on yourself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Throw a party<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Parties demonstrate significance and value, so throw one for the Lead Small App! Order pizza and gather your current small group leaders after church to cast vision and introduce the main features of the app together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
